Target Destroyed - Precision Bombing Did This

This original World War II poster was issued by the U.S. Army Air Forces Aircraft Identification Section in September 1942 as part of its Precision Bombing series. The dramatic design shows an enemy ship exploding within the crosshairs of a bombsight, accompanied by the messages “Target Destroyed,” “Precision Bombing Did This!” and “Combat Crew Co-ordination Made This Possible.”The poster emphasized the importance of cooperation among the members of an American bomber crew and the Army Air Forces' doctrine of daylight precision bombing. Rather than simply promoting air power, these posters stressed the training, target identification and coordination required to strike specific military and industrial objectives.Identified in the lower margin as Poster No. 1211, 9/42, Aircraft Identification Section DIT-AAF, the poster was printed in September 1942. This was a significant moment in the American air campaign in Europe, as the U.S. Eighth Air Force had begun its daylight bombing operations from England only the previous month. This is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.
