This dramatic poster was created by Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) to advertise Triple-Sec Fournier, a French orange liqueur produced by Fournier-Demars in Saint-Amand (Cher). The imagery is striking, with two devilish figures in motion against a fiery red background, an inventive way to convey both the spirit and strength of the product. The bold design ensured instant recognition, capturing attention in crowded urban streets and reflecting the imaginative energy that made Cappiello one of the most important advertising artists of his time. Leonetto Cappiello, born in Livorno, Italy, and later based in Paris, is celebrated as the father of modern advertising posters. Unlike his predecessors Toulouse-Lautrec and Mucha, who emphasized painterly detail, Cappiello pioneered a new approach built on simplified forms, bold colors, and memorable central figures set against flat backgrounds. Over his career he designed more than 1,000 posters, covering a wide range of products including beverages, cosmetics, tobacco, and travel. His ability to fuse art and commerce redefined poster design in the early 20th century. During this period, Cappiello made frequent use of devil and imp figures in his advertising imagery. These characters were both playful and provocative, symbolizing temptation, indulgence, and mischief — qualities well suited to products such as liqueurs and aperitifs. This motif became a hallmark of his style, with posters like Triple-Sec Fournier using striking imagery for memorable branding. To learn more about the artwork of Cappiello, please follow this link: https://postergroup.com/blogs/the-ross-art-group-blog/for-the-love-of-cappielloThis is an Original Vintage Poster, it is not a reproduction.
