In the Post World War ll era, Howard Hughes as the owner of TWA was a dominant force in expanding and promoting the routes flown by his company. As the economy was vastly improving, airline travel for business and pleasure was on the upswing and posters such as this were instrumental in promoting this form of travel. This poster is one of the rarest and most sought after of this era. It is exceptionally rare since it features the Lockheed Constellation aircraft.

Times Square in New York is often called the center of the world. With its dramatic colors and neon signs, it was and remains a popular destination for all visitors. This image was created by the American artist, David Klein and is viewed by many as his greatest poster. Its bold colors and objects portray the energy that typifies Times Square . This image was truly one of the Mad Men style of the 1950’s. The poster image features a Lockheed Constellation plane which was the elite propeller driven aircraft of the time. A later version of this poster was issued showing a jet engine plane that had replaced the Constellation aircraft. This image with the Constellation is the rarest of all TWA posters.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the poster. You sent it on Thursday and it was delivered the following Monday (nearly quicker than it took us to get home) to our house in Perth, Australia. We have just had it framed. We love it; it goes perfectly with the room.

  • The Ross Gallery has the best selection of vintage posters I have ever seen. Seriously, if you are in the market, they are the people. And, they know everything there is to know about the posters' provenance.
