VD Almost! is a 1946 public service announcement by Franz O. Schiffers (1902-1976). Schiffers was commissioned to create several posters warning against venereal disease aimed at the U.S serviceman overseas. Here Schiffer shows a hand labeled "VD" emerging from the water to prevent the serviceman from joining his troop sailing for home. The artwork is clear and direct. In the post-World War II era, the piece sent a message to prevent relations with foreigners. In today's world, these pieces are quite humorous and speak to a different time.
